Lori West Wraps Up Her Month of Commuting on an Electra Verse
“Poppy went to the Forum in Carlsbad and picked out few holiday gifts. The apple store was hopping. I hit Jimbos and did my organic, gluten free shopping. My legs feel strong this biking stuff is not only fun but a cheap workout! Cheerio!”
- Lori West
Lori’s 1-month commitment to commuting only by bicycle finally comes to an end this week. She learned so much this month and crafted a truly special relationship with the road and “Poppy” her Electra Verse bicycle. Lori can have the keys to her car back but we think she’ll still be riding a lot more than usual now that she’s experienced how a bike can take you different places.

“Passed this fisherman on the beach pedaling hwy101 near Cardiff Reef. Nice cool cloudy day perfect for fishing. My ride was fun. I quacked at a duck in the lagoon….you can’t do that from a car. Happy day.” – Lori
“Got my ride in today before the rain. I really can’t believe how mass transit is not really set up to move the amount of people they should. I should be able to jump on a high speed train to LA and ride my bike around Hollywood! We are way to dependent on automobiles. My eyes are open. We need to save our planet. Europe has so many options for their people. When did we lose touch?” - Lori
“Hello from the view at Cardiff Reef. I am so lucky to ride a bike in this world around such amazing scenery. California is beautiful. Now that I have a kickin’ hot Electra I plan on taking some road trips. Just hop on a bus or the coaster and I have so many options. I’m going to San Juan Capistrano soon, maybe to see the swallows. I appreciate the earth more and need my car less! Thanks for a great ride! Thanks Electra, thanks GoodOnYa Bar, thanks Ride Cyclery ! Happy Holidays.” - Lori
“Here’s Poppy getting a ride on the Hwy 101 Bus! Gave me some time to hang out and sight see from Solana Beach to the train station in Encinitas. My commute to work was a breeze! Having fun! Lovin my ride!” – Lori
“Visions of my chidhood in the pouring down rain! I had my LPGA rain gear on to protect me from the elements. The truck tried to splash me but missed. Ha! Ha! Here’s a view of the lagoon by La Costa Resort. Feeling alive!” – Lori

Sights, Sounds, Smells. Something is always fresh and new as a bicycle commuter. You actually get to experience the out of doors in a whole new way…seeing things you never saw from your car, smelling fresh bread and coffee as you cruise down main street in the morning, feeling what it’s like to ride next to a one-ton vehicle. Daily commuting life becomes a sort of meditation as you start to bond with your bike noticing the little things about your experience and sometimes the struggle it is to be a commuter in a car-centric world. But you also start to bond with your bike! Lori West updates us on the little joys discovered during her month of commuting on her brand new Electra Verse 24 she’s lovingly named “Poppy”.

“Riding past Morgans Run a cute local Del Mar golf course. Foggy and misty this reminds me of Carmel, Ca. Biking definitely raises your senses and brings back old memories. The smell of a skunk lasts a lot longer on a bike!” – Lori
“Hello from swamis surf spot. Some amazing artist carved this at the entrance. Way cool! I got a lesson on flat repair at Ride bike shop just in case. But all has been smooth. just a few big hills have slowed me down.” – Lori
“Went christmas shopping at the Forum. Lucky I was on a bike because parking is not a problem and I get smaller gifts! Saving gas and money at the same time!” – Lori
“Hello, here is a view of cardiff reef. The tide is really low. They moved a lot of sand this fall and it sure looks different around the break “Restaurants”. Tried to catch the coaster to the Encinitas station to help my commute but it doesn’t stop there. You have to go to Oceanside. Crazy. It should be easier to get around without a car!” – Lori
A New Perspective: Lori West’s Commuting Journey Continues

Ride moved to a beautiful new location, you should check it out if you love bikes and need to do some killer Christmas shopping. Now on to Whole Foods on my way home. Beautiful sunshine breaking out at the beach.”
